Hi all,
Wondering if anyone had any suggestions for settings using a Drum Dial tuner (especially bottom heads)
My kit is:
22x18
14x9 and 14x14
10x6 and 10x8
12x7 and 12x9
Snares: 14x6.5/6 and 5.5
Evans heads, clear resos with doulble ply clear and also double ply coated on batters.
I usually use a medim tension for country/rock
I'm too lazy to try different bottom/top settings and thought i'd ask around here.
I think Mr Erskine endorses this tuner and frequents these boards and might have some settings he uses or may have posted them before??

Hey
I would undo the "I'm too lazy" even with a drum dial.
My suggestion is to do a Weckl and tune all drums to the same tension--around 75 top & bottom. Then you need to tweak as desired depending on the quality of your kit. The snare needs to jump to around 85 to start...but then again, you might be going for the Don Henley sound.
Make sure the drums are on a hard surface and the rims are as straight as possible. The Drum Dial is a good tool, but works best IMO AFTER the drums are tuned well. If you're in a noisy room, the DD is valuable, but you need to know your setting preference B4hand.
Tweak and play...it's the only way!

Thanks for the info. i'll give 75 top and bottom a try. I think right now i've got 74 bottom and 77 top. I do agree with the proper tuning before hand. Otherwise any big change is affecting the other lugs and you end up going around 3 or 4 times with the DD. Small incremental changes seem to be the key....
